This year I learned that
I should do what I can WHILE I can,
that being alone
is ok.
I learned that I can deal with living in the moment
that
I don’t have to plan everything ahead.
I learned how to change a diaper, how to use a sewing machine, that I love to teach yoga classes, and that the word ‘martian’ isn’t another word for alien but a word for someone who lives on Mars.
I need less than I thought to be content.
This year I learned that a small life can be a happy life
that we should not take health for granted
I learned how connected we humans really are.
This year I learned that my privilege is wasted if I don’t use it on behalf of others,
that all plans are not plans
but can change in a second.
I learned that I can get through anything,
that health and family are everything,
that it’s ok to drink wine earlier in the day.
This year I learned that people are kind
that flexibility and adaptability are more important than I thought
and that Socrates’ mother was a midwife.
I learned that it’s good to slow down…
and that the will to be constantly in control is an illusion and will cause distress.
This year I learned that it’s time to get a dog.
