The Tour de France Returns to Lausanne

April 21, 2022

On Saturday July 9th, the eighth stage of the Tour de France will leave from Dole in the Jura region of France and end right here in Lausanne, in front of the Pontaise Olympic Stadium. Although we’re as excited as ever to be the hosts of one of the most iconic sporting events in the world, Lausanne is no stranger to the Tour de France -- in fact, we’ve hosted it five times before, going back to 1948.

This year, the cyclists will enter Lausanne via theUniversity and then continue on a challenging incline up Avenue de Beaulieu and Avenue duMont-Blanc for a total of 8km before finally crossing the finish line at La Pontaise.

After two years of disruption caused by the pandemic, the race is on full swing this year. The city will be celebrating in style with a wide range of events aimed at getting the public involved in cycling, both leading up to and on the day of the Tour. This includes the annual ‘Lausanne Cycling Day’, taking place this year on May 15th and consisting of four marked routes through some of the most scenic areas in and around Lausanne. If you want to get involved in the running of the Tour in Lausanne, there are a wide range of volunteering opportunities available in areas such as:

  • Aiding people with disabilities
  • Aiding logistics
  • Cleaning
  • Assembly and disassembly of the course
  • Safety monitoring
  • Providing info to spectators
  • Sustainability and the environment.
