Coffeephiles rejoice! A few years ago, if you would have told us that Lausanne would have its fair share of good coffee we would have totally laughed it off. Coffee just wasn’t a priority here, and it left many of us “settling” for an average cup of joe. But alas, Lausanne continues to surprise us in the best of ways, and we are now proud to say we have our own growing coffee culture and it’s getting pretty damn good.
The Coffee Project opened up in October of last year, and already has three locations in Lausanne (and plan to have many more throughout Switzerland before the end of 2018!). The brainchild behind the brand, Vangelis Katselis, is a graduate of EHL and his philosophy is quite simple: let the coffee do the talking. You won’t find fancy frappucinnos, sweet and syrupy blends, whipped cream or popcorn toppings. It’s almost as if The Coffee Project is trying to restore the original integrity of the coffee bean, and only uses single origin beans with various natural flavor profiles.
Konstantina, one of the lovely baristas at The Coffee Project, has two degrees specializing in coffee. She was SO knowledgable about the different varieties and talked us through the flavor profiles of each bean, then recommended one for our Flat White (from El Salvador)–which was absolutely incredible.
We found the space charming (it’s cozy, that’s for sure), and the no-frills-just-authentically-good-coffee approach refreshing. The prices are also surprising for such a speciality shop–an espresso is just 2 francs, and a flat white 4.50 CHF–and we love the option of trying out a more exclusive bean for a couple francs more if we’re feeling fancy.
Have you tried out The Coffee Project yet? Pop in to one of their several locations* (they’re even open on Sunday!) and let us know what you think! We think 2018 is going to be a great year, fueled by some great coffee 😉

Affordable coffee to go in Lausanne!! I am so glad that I stumbled into this place a month ago! Half the price of the chain place and the barista is so lovely and friendly. Plus she told me she makes some of the cookies and things!
YES! So so good!
Yay I like this place. I was just going to write you guys to say if you haven’t checked this place out that you should! Konstantina is great and the coffee is tasty. The one thing that’d be awesom*er* is to have lactose-
free milk (they have almond and soy) so that the steamed-milk drinks have a good froth.
oh shoot! yes lactose-free would definitely be helpful for a lot we imagine 🙂
You had me until “You won’t find fancy frappuccinos, sweet and syrupy blends, whipped cream or popcorn toppings” … the Starbucks fan in me shed a little tear.
hahaha, we respect that–but have to admit we were never into those PSLs 😉
