Over a month ago we decided to take a different walking path into town and passed this little storefront whose branding featured the iconic Italian coffee moka pot. If you know anything about us, you know that we are always up for trying out a new spot–especially if it involves coffee. So we must say, it was the coffee that drew us in, but the wafting scents of lunch & dinner prep that made us stay.
The coffee was spot-on and authentically Italian; strong & bold with a subtle bittersweet aftertaste. Their patisseries transported us to our frequent holidays just across the border–the sweetness of their croissants, the rich flavors of the custard filling. Needless to say, we were happy customers.
And then the lunch menu began to exit the kitchen. And then their latest catering creations were stacked on the neighboring table ready for delivery. And then we became a bit nosey.
The details pointed to simplicity, but assuredly nothing short of flavorful. Combinations of sweet and savory, all while creating the most colorful palette we’ve ever seen in such a modest side-street café in Lausanne. Almost too beautiful to eat…almost 😉
Everyday, Non Solo has a lunch and dinner menu inspired by seasonal ingredients and personal creativity–Tatiana was born and raised in Switzerland, but her roots and her palate remain in Sicily. As a graduate of EHL, and a father in the restaurant business, it was a matter of time before she followed the entrepreneurial path herself.
Non Solo’s specialities are the aubergine parmigiana, the lasagna, and their arancinis. They also have several antipasti, salads, and sandwiches. If you stop by on any given day, they will always have a ‘suggestion du jour’ composed of a meat or fish and a side for 12.50 CHF (15CHF if you eat in). If dessert is your thing, choose from tiramisù, panna cotta, profiteroles, Sicilian cannoli and the list goes on.
Needless to say, we were pretty excited about our discovery! Here’s to taking an unexpected path, and encountering a delightful (and tasty) surprise.
