Man’Ouchy

It was a Sunday night. We had just had one of those weekends that felt more frenetic than the work week. Chauffeuring kids to multiple birthday parties, several trips to the market and grocery store, catching up on life’s administrative tasks that aren’t possible during the week. The dinner hour came around and we just didn’t have it in us to cook for ourselves. And the thing is, we also didn’t feel like the usual greasy takeout. We wanted something flavorful, but also something fresh. Enter: Man’Ouchy.

There’s something about Lebanese cuisine that ticks all the boxes for us. It’s aromatic, refreshing, zesty, garlicky, floral, citrusy—it basically THE kaleidoscopic cuisine. And if flavor profiles aren’t enough, it’s one of the healthiest cuisines in the world because of the types of ingredients used as well as how they’re prepared. This month, we discovered that Man’Ouchy, a restaurant and food truck here in Lausanne, is no exception.

Man’Ouchy, named after the traditional and nutritional flatbread found in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan, is a Lebanese restaurant that began in 2016 initially as a food truck in Place de la Riponne (it can actually still be found there on Thursdays for the lunch hour!). Their menu is a feast for the eyes with a huge variety of Lebanese favorites: from the traditional Zaatar with Labné to fresh Falafel and Beef Schawarma. We have always found such joy in ordering from a Lebanese menu—the freedom to try several dishes (because who wants to commit to just one dish?!) with such different tastes, yet the flavors all work together for a happy (and healthy) palate.

We ordered the Chicken Taouk sandwich and the Beef Shawarma alongside the hummus, eggplant caviar, tabouleh, and labneh and we found the portions extremely generous, the variety of flavors delightful, and the freshness of ingredients so refreshing. Also it’s worth noting that all of their takeout dishes are compostable, which we really appreciated.

With the summer season around the corner, we can imagine many outdoor picnics accompanied with the delicious dishes from Man’Ouchy. There are still plenty of dishes we want to try—and with the quality and freshness of the food, we just may indulge and eventually try them all. It’s a tough challenge…but someone’s gotta do it.
