Le CouCou Hotel & Restaurant - The Lausanne Guide

Last December, between the brief re-opening and subsequent re-closing of restaurants, we were able to make the trek 1,150 meters above sea level to the little town of Caux just above Montreux and dine in the iconic chalet restaurant Le CouCou. We treated ourselves to a decadent lunch of slow-cooked beef and wine. The entire experience was only made more special by the location. Inside, you feel cozy next to an open fire surrounded by wooden walls and quaint Swiss decor, and outside the terrace is soaked in sunshine with panoramic views of the lake below.

Described as an Alpine Brasserie, Le CouCou uses organic and local products to source their menu. So local, in fact, that their famous raclette burger uses the meat from their neighborhood farmer David Huber, and their fondue uses none other than the local Jaman cheese.

But the local sourcing is only part of the pleasure–for us, the magic happens in the kitchen, where the chef transforms these quality ingredients into a mouth-watering and elevated dining experience.

You’ll find all of the mountain favorites you love–from rösti and fondue to l’entrecôte and côte de veau–each dish is made with careful attention to detail. And though the dishes are presented beautifully with nods to an elevated gastronomic experience, you’ll find each bite is familiar and comforting all the same.

The staff are warm and welcoming, the menu is inclusive for all ages and tastes, and the location & views are worth the journey.
