Design Days
Design Days is a cultural event organized by the non-profit organization Design Days and the magazine Espaces contemporains. Design Days alternates yearly between Geneva and Lausanne.
After much reflection and despite the current situation, the Design Days team has decided to maintain the event, but in a slightly different format as to follow the current health measures. In this period, many important design events have been cancelled and young designers have very few possibilities to show their work. This years’ event is a unique opportunity to give designers much-needed visibility while also promoting the local economy.
This years’ edition will take place over a period of 10 days. Instead of being concentrated in one main venue, the exhibitions will be spread out in various boutiques, stores, and workshops in and around Lausanne. One designer will work with one commercial host and together they will create special installations and pop-up corners in the window-displays and inside the stores. The city will thus be transformed in a creative laboratory, exploring new viewpoints through the collaboration between designers and stores, boutiques and workshops. The objective is to give both the hosts and the designers enhanced visibility in a setting which is safe for the public.
As in past years, the main goal is to offer a platform for the valorization and discovery of contemporary design in all its forms and to make it know to a wider public through exhibitions and a selection of local designers with a particular focus on Swiss design. This year, the new format strives to support the independent stores, shop owners, retailers and crafts(wo)men of Lausanne and its surroundings whilst keeping design center stage.
