L’Instant B

Petit Chêne is probably Lausanne’s most transient throughways, and keeping a business alive on its steep cobblestones is no easy task. The restaurant space just up the hill from Yatus is the perfect example – through the years we’ve seen establishments come and go, and despite the modern, windowed dining room, nothing seemed to stick.

When we heard that L’Instant B, a new street food concept from a recent graduate of the EHL, had taken up residence there, we wanted to stop in and see if maybe, just maybe, this one would have some staying power.

At L’Instant B, street food basically means casual dining with an inventive twist. The menu offers several small plates that are great for sharing over cocktails. We tried the bruschetta and appreciated that you could mix and match the combination that you prefer – we loved the tonatello in particular. The cocktail menu is limited, but the basil splash that we tried was absolutely delish.

Perhaps the biggest draw is that you get decent food for a really reasonable price. We would especially recommend L’Instant B for apéro when you want to eat light, drink well, and don’t want to spend a fortune.
