Originating in Lille in 1982, ‘Aux Merveilleux de Fred’ is now a global phenomenon found in major cities around the world. And now these marvelous creations can be tasted right here in Lausanne.
Frédéric Vaucamps may not be from Lausanne, but he’s just made a grand entrance. “Aux Merveilleux de Fred” is a new pastry shop that has opened up sous-gare and after one bite of the light and fluffy ‘mini merveilleux” we may not think of anything else for awhile.
Open everyday except Monday, this special patisserie prides itself on quality that you can see — passing by the vitrines, you can watch the pastry chefs make the products right in front of you.
The stars of the menu are obviously the Merveilleux – a base of light and airy meringue layered with whipped cream and topped with a delicate assortment of toppings depending on the flavor you choose. Six different flavors are available, five of them being gluten-free (the one with speculoos is the gluten culprit).
Not a fan of the merveilleux? Then stop by for their pastries – people are known to line up for their ‘cramiques’ when they’re coming out fresh from the oven. Of course, they have croissants and pain au chocolat, plus freshly made vanilla and Vergeoise waffles.
