Inexplicably, given the cycling paradise that surrounds us, bike maintenance in Lausanne has always felt challenging to navigate. Stores are either reserved for existing customers, or repair ateliers feel particularly urban and city bike focused, or large stores are just too impersonal. As a result, for over a decade, I have inconveniently schlepped my bikes to Morges for repairs and servicing. Luckily, there is now finally a solution in Lausanne.
Located just a stone’s throw from the Parc de Milan is TNCE (an acronym for The New Cycling Experience). With a large, bright floor space the TNCE atelier is easy to navigate. There is no maze of racks and tight aisles to block your way, there are no bikes precariously balanced like dominoes daring you to knock them over with so much as a misguided exhaling of breath. In fact it is civilized. You can walk in with your bike, whether it be a time trialling speed machine, a leisurely city bike, or a hill flattening e-bike and feel equally welcomed. Bike servicing appointments can be booked online, or Yannis and Thibault will happily attend to your questions, repair needs or help you with accessories should you swing by as a ride in. Additionally, given the inexorable link between coffee and cycling, TNCE boasts a beautiful coffee machine and all of their service packages include a coffee to keep you going whilst your bike is being looked after.
Therefore, if your trusty two-wheeled steed is in need of some TLC, TNCE is the place to go in Lausanne.
Also you’ll find that they have a chryotherapy chamber to help you recover from muscle aches and you can join TNCE for group cycle rides on Saturday mornings and every other Wednesday evening if you’re looking for a bit of community.
